APW - Illinois, Pennsylvania Special, 26J marked as "26 Ruby Jewels," 18S, nickel OF Illinois Watch Co. display recase, "Pennsylvania Special" signed white enamel DS dial, SW-LS,fully capped lever escapement, capped third wheel, jeweled barrel arbor, internally jeweled barrel, gold jewel settings, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#1742842. A beautiful and rare top grade watch, total production of the 26 jewel Pennsylvania Special is likely in the range of approximately 150 made. The present example is notable for the superb preservation of its two-tone movement color.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb two-tone color, bright lustrous plates, small darker spot inside fourth wheel jewel setting, some scattered very mild slight spots elsewhere, slight oxide to regulator assembly; dial has small patched chip to lower left corner of center section above 7, some small fractures and very small associated surface flaking close around center, few faint hls within center; excellent hands, minute with oxide to tip and with small bit of tip missing; case shows very little wear, few short scratches and scuffs to bezel, few scattered small nicks, no dents or dings; bow pivots freely, crown shows light wear; good glass crystals.
